“Talk about diverse—I’m from Mississippi, Black, gay, went to public school and Christian. I checked all the boxes,” Andrew McCaskill said, describing his profile upon joining his first PR firm.

Now a career expert at LinkedIn and economics contributor at SiriusXM, McCaskill was Tuesday’s Keynote at CAPRSA.

“Being the outlier is like the mouse and the elephant. The elephant doesn’t care about the mouse, but the mouse has to get a PhD in elephant to survive in the same room,” he said. “It’s not enough to get diverse people in the door—have you fired the people that make inclusion hard?”
